July, 2009 "DESUS Fair in Sapporo"

How are you doing in the middle of the rainy season? As for me, I visited Sapporo around Jun.20 in order to decorate and introduce new DESUS goods for the Fair held in Qualite Prix Shin-Sapporo and Tokyu Department Sapporo. Please visit EXHIBITION/NEWS in our DESUS homepage for more details of the fair. I had a great time talking with customers who stopped by and picked up our items while decorating.

During the business trip, I had an opportunity to watch a soccer game, Consadore Sapporo vs. Yokohama FC, with our dealer. We were able to get to know each other more by sharing our personal time. The game was tied, but I was amazed to see the unity of supporters for Consadore rooting, encouraging and spurring the coach and players with all their hearts as if they were a family. Work should be like that. The unity of the planning and development dept, the manufacturing dept, and the sales dept. inside the company, and the unity of distributors, dealers and makers outside, is the key to success.

In the future of DESUS, we will add a few new colors of the year 2009 - 2010 in gaio series, just like last year. In CONO, some new items will join. We are looking forward to introducing those new items to you. (Written by Hiro, Sales)

June, 2009 "interiorlifestyle 2009"

Interiorlifestyle 2009, held in Tokyo Big Sight from Jun. 3 to 5, was closed with success. Thanks to all the visitors to DESUS booth and the supporters.

In this fair, we introduced Richell's lovable series, 'PEKKA' and 'Colors Lunchbox'. It was a great opportunity for us to again show Richell's wide range of product lines by displaying those items which have quite different impressions compared with the DESUS brand. New items released in Jun. and reference items of 'gaio' from DESUS were also put in the booth, and they received positive impressions from visitors. The well-designed and decorated booth attracted a lot of attention, and people kept asking for permission to take photos.

By the way, I tried out a new item released in June from 'gaio'. My husband won a golf competition last week and brought back Himi-beef as the prize. We prepared a BBQ party straightaway. I put 'gaio Salad bowl M' on the table to serve lettuce for wrapping up the meat. It looks compact but has enough depth to carry food. The contrast between the acrylic transparency and the fresh green color of the lettuce was beautifully compatible. The bowl also seems to look good with potato salad and bean thread salad with lettuce leaves as liner. Fruits such as grapes and pears must also go well with it. I am sure it will be often seen on the dining table in my house!

'Tray M' and 'Pitcher 1.0' besides 'Salad bowl M' have joined 'gaio' series. The texture is just like glass but light and hard to break. Please try them out. (Written by Sumitani, Project Manager)

May, 2009 "The Beauty of New Leaves"

The best season for greenery has come. Isn't it wonderful to walk in the wood at this time of year? The sunlight is getting stronger. On the other hand, the nice spring air still runs though the shade and we realize the beauty of new green leaves when looking up at the trees there. Richell has a mountaineering club composed of staff members from various sections including the designers. They go out to the mountains for trekking about ten times a year. I heard that they enjoyed the spring mountain last weekend. Just taking a look at their photos of char in a snow melting stream and birds twittering was more than enough to relax me, who is always trapped in a concrete jungle while on business trips.

The various designs out of the world must be created by designers who were inspired by the beauty of the nature together with its relentlessness.
By the way, the call of TENGA (MICROWAVE SAFE) is introduced on page 312 of the magazine, Fujingaho, No. 1271 June 2009, by Hachette Fujingaho. Please have a look.

The feature article in the issue is 'Eat, Learn and Become a Sushi Master ' What an appealing title!
DESUS will take place in interiorlifestyle, held in Tokyo Big Sight from June 3 to 5. New items from 'Japan size' and new colors of this year from GAIO Tumbler will be introduced. Please stop by at our booth to see the enriched and comfortable DESUS world. The location is 19-27 in West 2. See you there! (Written by Hiro, Sales)

April, 2009 "A Fresh Start"

The new fiscal year has started. I have taken part in DESUS since the new system was formed in our company in April. The aim of the system is to beef up the DESUS brand more and to strengthen our proposal capability. We are planning to renew the brand this fiscal year by expanding the range of customers and proposing a full lineup of goods. We will devote ourselves to developing useful products with good designs.

Some of you might already know about this book, which still remains in my mind. It is 'Valuable Companies in Japan' by a professor of Hose University, Koji Sakamoto, published by Asa.
'Valuable Companies in Japan' by a professor of Hose University, Koji Sakamoto, published by Asa
It is often said that the cause of the recession these days could be the USA's excessive pursuit of profits. Even in Japan we hear the news every day telling us about the layoff of temporary staff, cancellation of job offers for fresh graduates etc... Now when the ultimate result came out as tragedy, what the book says seems to mean a lot to our society, such as, 'The most important thing in managing a company is continuation,' 'A company should be for the happiness of the workers,' and so on. This book still touches me deeply after a long time.

Under the new system, we are looking forward to meeting many of you and building good relationships in the future. (Written by Horikawa, General Manager)

March, 2009 "Spring has come"

Spring is here. I noticed how powerful life is when I saw cherry buds about to burst during a business trip to Nagoya. We say 'In spring one sleeps a sleep that knows no dawn,' however, my dog doesn't let me sleep late. Wearing a mask to combat hay fever and a thick jacket to keep out the cold, my days in Toyama start with walking him. Toyama is blessed with nature; I found horsetails by the roadside, telling us the advent of spring.

Speaking of the beginning of new lives, a test item for a new product which will be introduced in June, was delivered to me. A test item is a product whose form is to be checked after completion of the first mold. Then, we work on making fine adjustments to the mold for best results. This work is essential to have our customers smile at the moment when they touch our goods in stores or homes. From this point, the most enjoyable time for me starts, since I used to be a marketer. Through videoconferences, we discuss our goods with Mr. Hasuike in Italy. They are held when we ask him for a design sketch after the concept has been made, when we tell him how much and what level of quality is required, and when we decide the final specifications for new items. I am looking forward to seeing him again to talk about our passion for the upcoming products.

DESUS will start under the new system from April. Working on developing better relationships with users, stores and wholesalers, I would like to keep focusing on creating goods which make everyone smile. In the next Staff Report, the new general manager, Mr. Horikawa will greet you. (Written by Hiro, Sales)

February, 2009 "Homemade Chocolate for St. Valentine's Day"

My daughter tried to make chocolate pies this year to exchange with her friends on St. Valentine's day. She cut and bake frozen pie sheets and put melted chocolate on top of them. It was as easy as ABC, but the taste was excellent. The smell from the oven was indescribable. That’s what’s so good about homemade, isn't it? TENGA series is perfect for keeping homemade sweets: the depth is ideal, and the airtight seals protect them from getting soggy.

Continuing from the last staff report, let me write a bit more about winter sports. The other day I participated in an overnight ski tour organized by Richell Ski Club. It took place in Takanosu Snow Park in Gifu. With the magnificent weather, I enjoyed my first and also my last skiing of the season. Joining a ski school, my son skied as though he was a full-fledged skier, and showed: a snowboarding school.

On the way back, I bought the basic pickles of the region--Nozawana-zuke, the pickled Brassica--to take home. Of course, I kept it in a TENGA. In the Rectangle P-4 with the green packing, the contents look more beautiful through the transparent container. Another good thing about TENGA is that you can use them as tableware. The series has Orange and Brown colors for the packing besides Green. All of them are transparent, and both freezer and microwave-safe.

We are glad to hear inquiries about TENGA and the recipes for potluck parties, which were introduced in the magazine, 'ELLE a table No. 41', even after it has become February. Times are tough nowadays, but that is the very reason why we would like to suggest having better quality of life by presenting the virtue of DESUS goods. (Written by Sumitani, Project Manager)

January, 2009 "A happy New Year"

A happy New Year! I have been so refreshed through home parties at my friends' houses and mine, one after another over the New Year holidays, though I did put on some weight.
The new colors for GAIO Tumbler & Plate attracted attention at the parties. They make the table more colorful. In addition, it is easy to see which belongs to you because of the colorfulness. This time I didn't need to ask anyone which glass was mine even after enjoying some alcohol. In March, kids gather for 'Hinamatsuri' parties, don’t they? In that kind of occasion, Gaio works great; 3 colors in 2 sizes. Easy to identify your glass and plate. Besides, the plastic wares are not easily broken when dropped. Isn't it a lot of relief for mothers?

The theme is 'italy×japan; The Japanese designer accepted by Italy' The rice bowl from COVO in Italy and the castor sets from DESUS are presented. The article says that they are producing items which don't belong to their original cultures. Please take a look.

2009, the year of turbulence has just started. Pulling myself together, I will continue my efforts to catch more peoples' attention to DESUS goods by increasing the number of shops carrying the items, all over the country. (Written by Hiro, Sales)
went skiing again
My son started skiing last year, at the age of five, and now expects me to take him to a snow slope every weekend. He doesn't allow me to sleep late.
