December, 2006 gRun here, there and everywhereh

Time flies! One year has passed since I became gSALESh. It was the first time for me to do a promotion besides sales or marketing activities, so everyday was trial and error for me. This month, I traveled all over Japan, as the title suggests. Sapporo, Sendai, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka etc. I found there are unique characteristics from each sales section and products at stores. I will be a gmigranth next year, too, wonft I?
You may have noticed our DESUS products little by little this year, with support from our customers and many people both within and without our company.
In spring, 2007, new products, such as gContainer: TENGAh Party dishes will be released. The DESUS concept gDesign with Ush has been formed in the products. I expect youfll be able to feel gMeaningful timeh and gComfortable space,h which are our basic concepts, at exhibitions next year. I would like to do my best. Best wishes for a new happy year.

November, 2006 "Design Wave 2006 in Toyama"

DESUS project team held a press conference in Shiotome on Nov. 20. Announced that "TENGA" would be released in spring 2007. This is the 3rd product in the DESUS series designed by Mr. Makio Hasuike. Please look forward to our "meticulous" products!

I attended "Design Wave 2006 in Toyama" on Nov. 22, hosted by Toyama Design Association. 10 candidates, who passed though the final review, made a presentation at the Toyama Product Design competition.
After those presentations, 6 judges opened the review. Not only looking at those products but listening to their creators passion, I was attracted those products strongly. Then Mr. Hasuike and Ms. Naoko Hirota, a product designer gave a design seminar. They told hard luck stories with positive thinking in winning their business success. The Governor of Toyama addressed at the award ceremony and culture exchange. Every company in Toyama has focused on manufacturing, but in future they will increase collaboration with designers.

October, 2006 "LaLaport TOYOSU"

I went to LaLaport TOYOSU. I was so impressed with how big it was. There, you could feel the artistic atmosphere, as in a museum or a beautiful garden.
I found some differences from other ordinary shopping malls. In particular, it had lots of facilities and shops for kids. Besides "Kidzania Tokyo," which is a hot place for kids to experience a variety of occupations, there are many children's clothing and toy shops.
There is a cooking lesson for kids. Taking a glimpse at it, kids nervously waited for a cooking teacher, wearing cook's clothes. They were so cute I had to smile.

Now that Slow Food is focused on in Japan, I am thinking it may be good to produce kitchen tools based on the universal design, for everyone from children to grandparents to have a good time cooking together. (Written by Watanabe, Producer)

September, 2006 "Paris to Milan"

We went to Paris and Milan as the participants of "Toyama-Milan Design Exchange Club". We viewed exhibitions, "MAISON & OBJECT"and "macef" or shops in Paris and Milan, attended the exchange program with on-site designers, meeting at Hasuike Office... We had a tight-scheduled business trip.
In Paris, we first focused on "la table" and "MAISON & OBJET projects" at "MAISON & OBJET" which has high quality in products and theme. I realized how good designers here arrange the scene based on each concept, main theme to develop the product. Mr. Watanabe and I went to review shops in Paris the next day. We walked around shops which decorated on the concept holding a map in my hand. We found we walked about 10km! We went to the restaurant for dinner recommended by the photographer who is working here.
We had more than enough the dishes cooked with rare food. For Milan, please visit "MILAN REPORT" by Mr. Kiriyama, joined during our stay.

August, 2006 "The end of my stay in Milan"

I completed the overseas assignment at Maiko Hasuike & Co.s.r.l. for three months. I was able to manage my Milan life without any big troubles except my poor Italian. I received various senses through seeing, hearing, feeling and touching the daily life of Milan. This has never happened to me during a short business or pleasure trip. There is a big difference in life and culture between Italy and Japan. Also, I found that there is a strict environment and sense of design here. I discussed the development of DESUS products with Mr. Hasuike and his staff members smoothly. Look forward to our new products.
Finally, I really appreciate everyone in Milan.
Non so come ringraziarLa.

Antique Mercato
Antique Mercato (market) is held at the Naviglio, behind my residence, every month. It takes a few hours to look through all the booths which are crammed along the canal. Various goods, from jewelry to furniture, are sold. I accidentally bought some.

June, 2006 "Milan"

I visited Makio Hasuike & Co. s.r.l. in Milan to discuss new product development after Golden Week in May. My two-week stay in Milan has just started. I felt a little confused in Milan, which is a showcase for beautiful designs, but is defaced with graffiti. I enjoy the lovely views of Milan and slow-food everyday. I go to the office and return home like a Milan office worker. I wouldn't have ever experienced such a real Milan if I only shuttled between the exhibition and hotel. Of course I work hard, too. Please look forward to the results after the half year. Milan's gentle climate will surely help lead to a good result. (Written by Sasabo-, Marketer)

Residence La Darsena, where I am staying In Milan, the flat is basically furnished, with furniture and kitchen devices etc. It is said that Milan fashion models also stay here - Darsena River, near the residence. At night many teenagers come here and on weekends lots of entertainment is held along the canal. You can have fun!
May, 2006 "From MILAN"

I will stay at Makio Hasuike & Co. s.r.l. in Milan for 3 months, from May 10. I worry about living here without any knowledge of the Italian language, and about how the rest of my family are doing in Japan. I am fortunate to have such once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I want to make my 3-month stay meaningful. I am expecting new ideas and innovative concepts from our office staff members in Milan. So far I have given you little information, but I will be able to report various real-time information in the future suchas new products, show schedule and hard luck stories. "Letter from Makio Hasuike" by Mr. Makio Hasuike and "MILAN REPORT" by Mr. Toshiki Kiriyama will be issued. I hope you often visit our site. Maker and Designer will send the report from Milan next month. What will they be? Don't miss it! (Written by Hiro, Sales)

March, 2006 "POSA"

This is Miwa, in charge of product development. Let me introduce the product now being developed. The final model of "POSA," the new DESUS product for this month, has been completed. We shaped products using porcelain to design through a trial and error process, but we are proud of our products, which were designed by Mr. Makio Hasuike in Milan and crafted with great traditional skill. We take all possible measures to ensure releasing them. (Written by Miwa, Designer)

February, 2006 "MILAN-FLANKFULT"

I came to Milan, Italy, for the first time in a year and a half for discussion regarding a new product at Makio Hasuike & Co. s.r.l. There was a lot of snow in Milan a week ago before I visited. It was a rare case here. After the meeting, I looked over shops in Milan. When I visited before, there was a boom in Asian interior designs due to the popularity of the food. The boom is over, but Japanese food has stayed, and Japanese restaurants are full of Milanese. Then I moved to Frankfurt, Germany. to visit "Ambiente," which is the world's largest trade show for international consumption goods. A large-scale exhibition hall was crammed with booths, which I've never seen in Japan. We left the hall, contemplating, "If we presented DESUS here, what concept would it be and how would we present its booth?" (Written by Hiro, Sales)

A Happy New Year, everyone!

Meaningful Time DESUS
When I am off, I spend time to relax with my wife and son. Under a rare blue sky during Toyama winter, my son and I played with kites. Renew myself in body and spirit!
